My Thoughts

25 Random Things About Me

I have been thinking all day about what to blog today, about which topic to post about.  I have a list of blog topics that I wrote out when I decided to answer this call to blog.  Funny thing is, I was making dinner, not really thinking about anything really, and it was just all of a sudden there: post the ’25 Random Things About Me’ that you wrote years ago (it was February of 2009, actually).

So I figured out how to find them on my Facebook history (boy, that was fun … uh, not really) and here they are {{today’s thoughts in red}}:

1.I absolutely positively cannot stand it when people scrape their teeth on their fork when they eat – drives me mad…and most of the time I tell them!! No change here {{shudders even thinking about it}}

2.I am very weary of people who are 100% all the time, everything in their life is all about God…what they say, what they write, what they wear…if you have to spend that much time telling me you’re a Christian than I’m going to pay closer attention to your ACTIONS because 95% of the time you’ve only got your big toe in the holy water while the rest of you swims in the world … don’t TALK about it, BE about it!

3.I have the utmost respect for parents who do the right thing for their kids…especially if it means giving them up. It’s sad to me that the world can make a parent feel they have to keep their kids even though they know the kids would be better off somewhere else … tenfold today – one day this will be a personal story I share … when my heart can bare it

4.I truly believe “if you wait until the last minute to do something, it only takes a minute to get it done”…     ……….  I plead the 5th  …………

5.…which leads to the fact that I am 100% wired/stressed/full of anxiety all the time because I lack the self-discipline to STAY organized…but I’m working on that one day at a time this year Oy ve … is the year {2009} over yet?!

6.I hate reality TV and I look forward to the time when television shows nourish the minds of our children with wholesome values and life lessons again (like when Dr. Huxtable played the drinking game with his whole family, including Rudy – who was about 7, to teach Theo a lesson about drinking irresponsibly…remember, it turned out to be tea but Theo didn’t know that!)  Nearly 8 years later and I’m still waiting

7.Though I believe it’s sad that society judges a person based on a first glance, I also believe that if you want to be successful in society that you have to learn to play the game wisely  Sigh.  Sad, but still true.

8.I believe everyone deserves a second chance but not a third. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me  I’m still in agreement with my old self but I will admit that the older I get, the more I weigh on this stance.  Where would I be if God hadn’t shown me repeated grace? Maybe it depends on the circumstance

9.I don’t care if you’re homosexual, heterosexual, atheist, Jew, Christian, Mormon, Hindu, Buddhist, bisexual, white, black, Mexican, Asian or purple with orange polka dots – I’m going to get to know WHO YOU ARE and then decide if you get to be in my circle of trust…and it will take me less than five minutes to figure out who you are and decide  YES!! This will never change about me.

10.If you don’t like me, something is wrong with you because I’m a likeable person  Yep.  Still true.  Sorry, not sorry.

11.I look back on my life now and realize I took a long walk away from the Lord at one point…I also realize He never left my side. Though I would never change ANY of the things I did in my life (they made me who I am and I happen to like who I am), I do use my experiences to give advice to those who come into my life today – whether they heed it or not is totally up to them  and I still acknowledge this realization every day, thanking God for where He has brought me.

12.I’m opinionated…just like my mother. Most people take this as being rude or thinking I believe I know everything but people who get to know who I am realize that I don’t care if you take my opinion to heart but I’m going to share it because I’m entitled to do so. They also know that I am willing to listen to anyone’s opinion and “chew on it” to see if I need to make a change in my thoughts/actions.  I’m laughing.  This is so true, to this day!

13.I absolutely positively cannot stand it when people shuffle their feet…that’s just pure laziness!! Pick up your feet!!  UGH!!

14.I believe you should raise your children so that OTHER people will enjoy being around them. My mom always told me that when I entered the parenthood stage of adult life that my friends would change based on the ability to enjoy being around their children…she was right.  Yep. Still believe this … and no, I don’t think my children are perfect but I do believe people enjoy being around them.

15.I believe your boss should NEVER be surprised by any action you take. You represent them and a company in the long run and if anything you do could possibly have repercussions, they deserve to hear it from you first. I’m thankful that my dad taught me this lesson when I got my first job – it’s taken me very far in my career  JTKYITL – Just To Keep You In The Loop … the subject line of many emails to my boss!

16.I’ve never lost anyone to death that is truly close to my heart and the older my parents get the more I realize the day is coming at one point or the other…that or whenever there is an “officer down” in Raleigh b/c I instantly pray it’s not my brother  And now I’m bawling.  RIP, Daddy … I miss you more than words could ever express

17.I suck at prayer and reading the word. I have been given so much advice on how to delve in but I learn better in a group setting and I have yet to find a bible study that was truly a bible study and not a girly gossip fest…sad  I’m tremendously better at prayer but I still struggle with reading the word.  We did a bible study at the hotel I used to work at once that was actually pretty fruitful … I think of that group fondly, often

18.I hate that ever since I moved to North Carolina I have given up all the things I used to love to do in Ohio (bowling, movies, playing cards)  Still don’t do them, still hate that I don’t BUT have also realized that I do new things instead 🙂

19.I am thankful every day that God gave me Maverick and Piper…and that Missy found it in her heart to let me be a mom when I thought I would never get to be one  … and our surprise blessing, Cheridan!

20.I don’t understand why my husband loves me so much. Truly, I don’t. We are as opposite as can be…literally in every way…but we have so much love for each other that I’m amazed…and thankful…for it every day … still amazed!!

21.I get uncomfortable when people compliment me  … I think I’m more graceful about recieving compliments now but it still makes me uneasy – I don’t think I’m the ‘center of attention / hey! look at me’ girl

22.I detest the word “try” – it’s so weak…there is NO SUCH THING AS TRYING…you’re either doing or you’re not!!  Yes!!  Such a weak word!!

23.If you bring your kids to my house, be prepared for me to correct them if they do something I don’t want done in my home. If this offends you, you need to tell me up front. It’s not about “your kids are horrible” – it’s about the fact that only I know what MY rules are…when I take my kids to your house, I fully expect you to fuss at them…I don’t know what YOUR rules are and I don’t want to stress about it either!  Sadly, I’ve lost some potential friendships over this but I am unchanged in feeling this way.  Don’t make yourself nuts and don’t make your kids miserable fussing about every thing … if it bugs me, I’ll tell them – trust me!!

24.My favorite part of Christmas is spending Christmas Eve wrapping gifts with my mom…we’ve been doing it since I was 9  well, excpet that one year when she had a kidney stone, lol

25.I hate when people read into things – most things are what they are, nothing more, and nothing less. If you have a question about it – ASK…and ask the person who has the answer not twenty other people who are going to start gossip – go to the source and hear it from their mouth to your ears…it would help save us all from the drama  A THOUSAND TIMES YES!!!

  1. It amazes me how much we have in common.
I am definitely one of those people who reads into things, BUT I DO ASK the “horse’s mouth” if it’s truly something I want to know. I don’t really pay much attention to what other’s are doing unless something directly affects me.
